The Use of Jargon

Jargon is the use of technical terms which are only understood by a specific group of people that share a specific activity or interest. The use of jargon should be avoided unless you are within an audience that is totally familiar with the terms.

Usually in Sports or in certain occupations individuals within that circle would use words that each individual within that circle can identify with. Medical Practitioners would use terms within their circle that an outsider would not understand unless they attended or are attending medical school. Lawyers, law enforcers and educators all share terms that are used to express specific things that they all would understand.

To use jargon effectively and efficiently is to use it only within that shared environment. People are not alienated when they all speak the same language. The speaker is not thrown off when they have to be interjected to explain terms and meanings
